Born in Paris in 1912, Fred Zeller received his education at the "Lycée Jacques Amyot" in Melun and attended the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris from 1930-1933. From 1937, Fred Zeller gained notoriety as an illustrator, and his contribution was sought after by all the great Parisian reviews, and daily and weekly papers.  Zeller also illustrated many books for the Editions Albin Michel, and subsequently devoted himself to painting in the symbolic manner coupled with surrealist composition.

Since 1940 he has exhibited regularly at the Salon des Indépendants, of which he is a member.  He has received many awards including the Vermeil Medal of the Museum of Moulines and in 1963 the Medal of Honour of the city of Paris.
